Helvetica was a great documentary to watch. I always took time to select fonts for a project, but this film really demonstrated the importance of selecting the right one. A font can portray a certain emotion, energy, and professionalism. The spacing, boldness, symmetry, and lettering style all affect how a font is perceived. Although I've heard of Helvetica before, I never knew how significant it was as an industrialized font. The documentary did an excellent job displaying how it appears everywhere from Target to transportation signs. The font's practicality makes it easily legible for readers at any distance. Helvetica's legibility is definitely its strongest feature and is one of the most significant aspects I will think about when selecting a font.
This week, I confirmed a meeting with Jordan, the president of the DKA film fraternity at GMU. We will be meeting shortly after our presentation for a class. Jordan is very curious about what is required to run a film festival & conference as an undergraduate and wishes to learn from our experience.
I began putting together a presentation. Anthony found a Visions5 trailer in the archives, which I would like to include. I have planned a meeting with him on Monday so I can select previous film contenders/winners of past Visions to screen during my presentation. I will be selecting at least one from each category (Narrative, Documentary, Animation, and Experimental).

10. What are the risks? (Small vs. large impact, likely vs. unlikely)
- Large impact, likely: Our College Tour does not spark an interest with GMU students
- Large impact, unlikely: Our presentation space will no longer be available
- Small impact, likely: Weather may cancel/delay our PA training workshop at GMU
- Small impact, unlikely: We may have to reschedule a meeting with the DKA fraternity
11. How will you communicate with your team?
As the head of this project, I've communicated with my team via Facebook Messenger and text. I've organized meetings to discuss our approach for the College Tour presentation as well as our roles for this event. I plan on scheduling additional meetings.
12. How will you determine if the project is successful?
This project will be successful if we can recruit more GMU students into attending Visions in April. I also will consider this a success if I persuaded future students from GMU to keep submitting to Visions annually or to attend our Film Festival and Conference in the future.

Week 1
Although I did some work with the Partner School over break, it is a wake-up call getting back into the Visions6 grind. This past week took me by surprise with the amount of work that I should have been started over break.
I did hit a small bump in the road when our free-housing offer for the College Tour was cancelled upon our return this semester. So, I researched hotel and Airbnb prices. I found Airbnb housing within 2 miles of GMU at a reasonable price of $168 for 2 nights for 5 people. I submitted a request this Sunday to book it, but the request are only valid for 24 hours. I received an email today that my request expired, so I sent in another. If I do not receive confirmation by Wednesday this week, I will look elsewhere for a better option.
I also emailed Giovanna with a College Tour update with our changed visiting times and confirming that we will be taking the lecture-event she offered for us on Friday from 3pm-5pm.
A mistake I made this past week was mainly due to miscommunication and not thinking about the new Visions staff members. This mistake regards Sam and her work with the Valentine's Day Bake Sale flyers. I sent her a link to the Art Department Google Calendar and told her about the due date as well as where to find the information to include on the flyer (within the description on the Google calendar event). However, I neglected to think or check-in with Sam with whether or not she fully knew how to use Google Calendar. When I checked in with her today, she said the Art Department Calendar did not appear on hers. Michelle and I called her today to clear up this misunderstanding, in which I told her how to add it to her calendar by clicking the link in the gmail I sent her.
Michelle had a meeting with Sam earlier this week (I was unavailable to attend) to explain the event flyers. We have agreed that we need to have a personal group meeting with Sam to walk her through exactly how the Google Calendar works as well as bleeds needed for printing.
I am very impressed with Sam's flyer designs so far!
